Makawalu Workshop - Modern-Vintage Lo‘i Kalo Elopement

Shoot numba 2 (yes, I spelled “number” like this on purpose) from the Makawalu Workshop was a beautiful modern-vintage styled elopement at a Lo‘i Kalo at Kuhiawaho. Lo‘i Kalo in Hawaiian is translated to, “Taro Patch” in English.

A short Hawaiian lesson about taro patches: Dated back hundreds of years ago, when voyaging Polynesians came to the Hawaiian islands, Lo‘i Kalo was cultivated. In order to have Lo‘i Kalo, a fresh water source was needed. This fresh water flowed all the way from the mountains to the taro patches with an endless supply of water. Kalo is still a food staple here today - all parts of this plant can be eaten - the root of kalo is cooked and pounded into poi and the heart shaped leaves are used to wrap to steam fish and meats.

This styled shoot can truly speak for itself. Take a look at the shots I got from this styled elopement at Kuhiawaho.
