Koolau ballrooms / A Destination Wedding in Oahu Hawaii

Some wedding days feel extra special — not just because of the setting, but because of the history woven into them. Den + Cyndle’s destination wedding celebration in Hawaii at Ko‘olau Ballrooms was one of those days for me.

I grew up with Den — truly a calabash connection. Our moms are best friends, and although Den is a few years older than me, I spent more time growing up alongside his younger sister, who’s closer to my age. Watching Den step into this next chapter felt incredibly meaningful, especially knowing how much family and connection mean to him.

Their Love Story & Thoughtful Details

Den and Cyndle met in college while playing volleyball for the same school. They shared the same friend group and became close friends before their relationship naturally grew into something more. Since college, they’ve built a life together in Maine, rooted in their love for the outdoors — hiking with their dogs, exploring new trails, and traveling for new adventures.

That same intentionality showed up beautifully on their wedding day. Despite traveling thousands of miles, they didn’t miss a single detail. From romantic table décor to life-sized head cutouts of their dogs (who couldn’t be there), every element felt personal and heartfelt. One of the most emotional moments of the night was when Cyndle surprised Den with a hula performance, a meaningful gesture that left the room full of love.

Ko‘olau Ballrooms Wedding

With lush mountain views and timeless elegance, Ko‘olau Ballrooms was the perfect setting for this romantic destination celebration. The venue offered a seamless blend of natural beauty and refined charm, making it an ideal choice for couples planning a Hawaii destination wedding.

Tips for Planning Your Destination Wedding in Hawaii

  1. Plan early and thoughtfully: Hawaii destination weddings require extra coordination, especially for travel, rentals, and vendors. Booking early helps ensure availability and peace of mind.

  2. Choose a venue that does the heavy lifting: Venues like Ko‘olau Ballrooms offer stunning scenery, reducing the need for excessive décor.

  3. Bring meaningful details from home: Whether it’s custom décor or personal touches (like nods to pets or family traditions), small details go a long way when celebrating far from home.

  4. Hire local vendors you trust: Working with Hawaii-based vendors familiar with destination weddings helps everything run smoothly.

  5. Create space for connection: Destination weddings are about more than one day — they’re about time together, shared experiences, and celebrating with intention.

Den + Cyndle, thank you for trusting me to capture a celebration that crossed oceans, honored family, and brought so much love back home to Hawaii.
